Coordinate for Your Session

Another key decision when planning for children's portrait photography is clothing. When photographing several children together, we recommend that the children are wearing either matching or coordinating colors. Solid colors tend to work better than busy prints. Busy prints can distract from what should be the focus of the photo: the beautiful children and the picturesque surroundings. We also suggest colors that complement the background. For pants, shorts or skirts, we find khaki, denim, and white are popular choices and photograph well. For tops, many clients opt for white. However, pastel colors such as blue and yellow photograph beautifully and coordinate with the water and sky. Whichever colors you choose for your children's portrait photography, it is important to keep comfort in mind. Candid photographs are also a nice element in children's portrait photography. These are best captured when children are both comfortable and happy.
